There isn't a day that goes by where I don't reflect back on how fortunate I am for the opportunities I have with my son. I haven't been able to switch to a full-time photographer yet, but as I see it I have the best of both worlds. For the last few years I have worked for a hospital in town doing computer based work. This allows me to spend my days at home working for a company that provides amazing medical benefits for our family. Along with this I am able to pursue the longtime goal of switching to a full-time photographer...which when that day comes will be a huge step. It is my hope that I can become busy enough to fill in those financial voids that leaving the hospital will have...but until then, I'll just do both. Currently I am able to shoot in the afternoons and weekends which is plenty, and to be honest, that's when I would shoot even if I was full time.
Back to the reason for this post...I get to see our boys grow a little more, explore a little further in our house, and listen to their constant babbling from the other room every day of the week. Our family has been blessed to be able to have this type of work schedule where my wife can take certain days off and her parents come down from Payson, AZ to watch Finn & Shepherd on the others, all the while I can pop my head out of our office and play with them for a few minutes...at any time I want. This is by no means meant to be a bragging post, but a constant reminder of how thankful I am for the life I am living. The beautiful people that have I have come across in the last couple of years have filled me with such joy that I couldn't ask for a better life. During my last semester at college we had a Senior Capstone Class which focused on getting us into a job when we graduated...I took a different approach. I have a bachelors degree in Sustainable Energy, Materials and Technology, but I work for a hospital and am a photographer...what?! We were asked to make a list of things we wanted to do with our life if a "career" wasn't an issue...photographer made the #1 spot, and being happy while raising a family was #2. My priorities kicked into place at that very moment. It was from that point on that I decided to chase those dreams...so here I am, each day plugging away with a company that can help me take care of my family, and using other time to get out and photograph the beautiful people I am so fortunate to meet.
Thank you to everyone who has made this possible and believed in me. These two are my little bundles of joy, Finn & Shepherd...they light up each day and remind me what it's like to feel alive, proud, and to love someone more than I ever imagined I could. Side note: My wife is amazing and this dream I am living would be nowhere without her love and support.
